Lisa Maguire (16) took a big step to earning her place in the European team for the 2011 PING Junior Solheim Cup when she won the Spanish International Ladies' Amateur Championships. The Junior Solheim Cup takes place at the Knightsbrook Hotel Spa and Golf Resort in Maguire's home country of Ireland on 20-21 September 2011. "I am absolutely thrilled. It was a terrific match and I really had to hold my nerve," Lisa told the Belfast Telegraph.

She was tested at the tournament in Spain and eventually claimed the prize by beating French teenager Emilie Alonso by one hole in the final at the Sherry Golf course. The result handed her a massive 80 points and saw her rise to the top of the official qualifying list for the Junior Solheim Cup. She may also be joined by her twin sister Leona, who is in third place on the list. The Maguire twins will be hoping to attend the tournament for the second consecutive time after the made their debut as 14-yaear-olds at the event in the USA in 2009 at the Aurora Golf Club.

The Girls' Under-18 Championship is what they will be focusing on next and will allow them to get familiar with the Knightsbrook Hotel's course. The championship event will be held on April 9-10. They will only know if their place is guaranteed in August though when the Girls' British Open Amateur Championship is completed. The top six golfers on the Junior Solheim Cup Ranking at the end of this qualifying event will automatically earn a spot on the European team.
